Sierra County is undertaking a broadband feasibility study to determine if there is a way to build a fiber optic network to bring gigabit broadband to residents of the area. The potential services would provide residents and businesses with super-fast internet access. As part of the study, we are asking residents to take a speed test so that we can understand the actual data speeds being delivered by broadband products in the area.
1,040 tests of COVID-19 have been performed in Sierra County with only one positive case being reported back in April. 92% of the COVID-19 deaths in New Mexico have occurred in (4) counties (San Juan, Bernalillo, McKinley, and Sandoval). According to the number of positive cases compared to the number of tests performed, the state peaked on April 22, 2020. NM Health Department estimates 3,380 people have fully recovered.
