Effective yesterday, the unincorporated areas of Sierra County are under Fire Danger Emergency Conditions. Ordinance 20-001 restricting open & controlled burns in Sierra County. For agricultural burn permits, you may contact the offices of the Emergency Services Administrator by calling (575) 894-6215.

The state has 6,317 positive cases of Covid-19 according to the NM Health Website, there have been 147,344 tests performed. 7 new deaths yesterday, raising the total to 283 statewide all having underlying medical conditions. 92% of the COVID-19 deaths in New Mexico have occurred in (4) counties (San Juan, Bernalillo, McKinley, and Sandoval counties). 206 currently remain hospitalized, while 1,985 people have fully recovered. 569 tests have been performed in Sierra County with only one positive case of COVID-19 being reported.

If you need food, email food@sierraco.org or call the county administrative office (575) 894-6215. The email should include your name, address, phone number, and the number of people in the home. We have currently provided over 7,371 meals to area residents.

If you live in the Elephant Butte or Williamsburg area or only have a PO Box as an address you may not have received a Census ID through the mail. We encourage you to go online to my2020census.gov/ and click on the link “If you do not have a Census ID, click here”. Sierra County is currently at 26% response rate. For every individual that is not counted our local community will lose $3,700/year or $37,000 between census taken every 10 years. That is my2020census.gov/
