Truth or Consequences, NM – Today the New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) confirmed one individual tested positive for COVID-19 in Sierra County. “The community has done a fantastic job complying with the state’s public health orders, but it was only a matter of time before some of our residents were exposed to the virus,” said County Manager Bruce Swingle. “We have been planning and training for this day since the first cases of Coronavirus were discovered in New Mexico. Emergency Management, health care facilities, and emergency services have been working with the DOH and State Emergency Management on a daily basis in anticipation of this day”, Swingle continued.
The DOH will investigate and track this case and determine if others may have been in contact with the virus.
Residents who are concerned that they may have the virus should call the DOH 1 855-600-3453. Callers will be asked a series of questions after which they may be asked to take a COVID-19 test and given an appointment.
“Maintain social distancing, wash your hands frequently, and stay home unless travel is absolutely necessary – especially if you’re sick. With care and common sense we will get through this,” concluded Swingle.
