Public Hearing: Proposed Burn Restriction Ordinance

Notice is hereby given that the Sierra County Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the Sierra County Commission Chambers, 1712 N. Date Street, Truth or Consequences, New Mexico 87901, for the purpose of considering adoption of Ordinance No. 2026-003, an Ordinance and Proclamation Restricting Open and Controlled Burns in the Unincorporated Areas of Sierra County.

The proposed Ordinance declares that severe drought conditions and high fire danger exist within Sierra County and establishes restrictions on open and controlled burning within the unincorporated areas of the County. The Ordinance authorizes the Sierra County Emergency Services Administrator to issue limited burn permits under specified conditions, provides for enforcement by law enforcement officers, establishes penalties for violations, and repeals prior ordinances and proclamations regulating open fires and fireworks.

The Board of County Commissioners may take action on the proposed Ordinance immediately following the
public hearing. A complete copy of the proposed Ordinance is available for public inspection during regular business hours at the Sierra County Clerk’s Office and the County Manager’s Office, both located at 1712 N. Date Street, Truth or Consequences, New Mexico 87901.
